More on the movement

The Movement

Discover where we’ve come from and where we’re going.

Baptist Churches Western Australia (BCWA) is the cooperative expression of local Baptist churches, agencies and institutions, working together to better serve our communities in Jesus’ name. Together, we strive to live the reconciled lives Jesus has made possible. This is our story.

History

Looking back.

Our journey began in 1896 when four West Australian Baptist churches formed The Baptist Union of Western Australia

Their goal was to engage more effectively in mission work, which at the time, was focused overseas.

Over more than 125 years, we’ve evolved to become theologically diverse, multicultural, and cross-generational association of 110 churches and other agencies. Each is committed to genuine unity, showcasing generosity and respect as we work together to achieve more.

The Future

Moving forward

Since BCWA began, the world — and our communities — have changed considerably.

Through it all, Jesus remains Good News for all people, in every generation. As we look to the future, we’re committed to Christ-centered gospel living as we take our place in God’s story of reconciliation, as it is revealed in the Bible.

We want each local Baptist church to be recognised as a safe and welcoming community where every person can grow in faith and in good relationship with God, self, others, and the world. BCWA remains committed to serving together in Jesus’ name, whether that be globally, across the nation or in local communities.
