Baptist Churches Western Australia is the cooperative expression of Baptist congregations, agencies and institutions choosing to work together to achieve more.
Baptist Churches Western Australia (Baptist Union of WA) was formed in 1896 by four West Australian Baptist churches that united together in order to engage more effectively in overseas missions. These churches consisted mainly of Baptists who had migrated to Western Australia from the eastern state colonies as a result of the newfound prosperity from the Kalgoorlie gold rushes.
The Baptist Churches has seen a steady growth over the last 100 or so years to more than 110 churches. We act as the glue that links the individual Baptist congregations and ministries together by delivering services that help build healthy churches. By uniting together, individual churches can assist one another to be more effective in reaching Western Australia (and beyond) with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Baptists of today are a diverse group of people from all walks of life, with a wide range of interests and spread not only throughout Western Australia, but the world. We recognize that everyone is on their own spiritual journey. As followers of Jesus Christ we want everything we do to stem from a commitment to serve our communities together and make an impact for Jesus Christ as we help others on their journey.
Across WA, there are over 11,000 people that make up our movement. Around the world there's well over 100 million people who belonging to a Baptist community. Together, we're striving to become the kind of churches described in the bible, where there's relevant teaching, heart-felt worship, honest relationships, constant prayer and compassionate care for those in need.
We welcome the wider community to start to ask questions about God and encourage committed Christians who want to sink the roots of their faith even deeper, to make themselves at home at one of our church families.
